Dylan's Top 5 Books of the Moment

Dylan changes his mind on a second-by-second basis. He is indecisive about everything from food to clothing options to whether or not he actually has a poopy diaper.  He is known for trying a bite of my food and squealing "MMMM!" then, when I dish him up his own serving (minutes later), he announces "Don't wanna!"  So I thought it might be fun to document his book preferences from time to time.  Here are a few that we read ALL THE TIME and, as a result, I could read these in my sleep (and sometimes I practically do).

 1.  Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late by mo willems
I have actually been a fan of mo willems for years (long before I had a child), so it works out really great for me that Dylan appreciates these books too.  These are called "pigeon books" at our house and they include: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Pigeon Wants a Puppy, and the above-mentioned.  They are a quick and easy read, they are not repetitive (a parent's worst nightmare) and they are mildly amusing.  mo willems actually has several different characters, each with its own story line. I love them all.

2.
Truck Stuck by Sallie Wolf

We originally found this book at the library, but Dylan will soon be receiving it as a birthday gift (don't tell). It's actually a really fun book to read because it has a fun rhythm and is made up of simple sentences and fragments so it goes quickly.  The illustrations are cute and there are all sorts of things going on in each page.  Dylan likes to look for balloons on each page.

3.
Time for Bed by Mem Fox

This book is so sweet. The illustrations are cute and each page rhymes so it's fun to read.  In addition, all of the animals are animals that Dylan can name and make a sound for so we go through the book slowly and identify animals. It may be that Dylan likes to talk about this book more than read it, but that's kind of the same thing in toddler-world!

4. Cock-a-doodle-doo! Barnyard Hullabaloo
Cock-a-doodle-doo! Barnyard Hullabaloo by Giles Andraea and David Wojtowycz

Each animal in this book has its own little rhyme (rap, you might say) and for some reason this makes Dylan laugh hysterically.  Specifically, he finds the turkeys and the geese hilarious in this book.  I don't know why. He gets his craziness from his father :)  Also, these authors wrote Rumble in the Jungle and Commotion in the Ocean... gotta love it!

5.
Little Quack series by Lauren Thompson

There are tons of Little Quack books. They feature Little Quack, but he has four siblings: Widdle, Waddle,  Piddle, and Puddle.  The illustrations are adorable and the stories are cute.  We have Little Quack's Opposites, Little Quack Counts, Little Quack's Colors, and one that's about a rowdy game of hide-n-seek.

So leave a comment and tell me what books are popular in your home.  I'm always looking for new ideas!

I looooove the Pigeon books! They're so funny, and they're fun to read.

I may not have a child, but I spend A LOT of time around them, as you know, so here are my picks...

The Seals on the Bus - http://www.amazon.com/Seals-Bus-Lenny-Hort/dp/0805086781/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307750649&sr=8-1
Hilarious play on "The Wheels on the Bus." Fun sounds to make like "erp erp erp!" or The 'vipers' (wipers, haha!) go "hiss hiss hiss!" The kids really get a kick out of the silliness.

Dinosaurumpus! - http://www.amazon.com/Dinosaurumpus-Tony-Mitton/dp/0439395143/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307750708&sr=8-1
It had a catchy "chorus" (if that makes sense). And the kids like to act out the parts, like hopping and stomping and roaring.

No, David! - http://www.amazon.com/No-David-Shannon/dp/0590930028/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307750667&sr=8-1
A book about a naughty boy doing naughty things. The drawings are hilarious, not much dialogue but it's fun to act out, and brings up the opportunity as to why NOT to do the things David does :)

Hiccupotamus - http://www.amazon.com/Hiccupotamus-Board-Buddy-Aaron-Zenz/dp/0761458832/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307750680&sr=8-1
Another silly book, I love the way it rhymes and makes up words. Such as an elephant making a cake that's green and yellophant and you say "Hellophant!" Fun stuff.

I have a book for you about daddy's snoring :) I will give it to you when I see you next!
