I did eat oatmeal and banana for breakfast and did not have my usual 2-3 cups of Sunday morning coffee. I'll admit, the CBS Morning Show just isn't the same without coffee. I tried instead to load up on water, which is actually what you are supposed to drink in the mornings because apparently sleep dehydrates your body. I will say that I had a dull, nagging headache much of the day because of the lack of caffeine. A delightful experience I faced the first two weeks of pregnancy as well.
Last night I made some homemade wheat bread so for lunch I was going to make some variation of bruschetta, but I was starving for some reason, so I made an egg with roasted red peppers, plunked it on the wheat bread (toasted) and shredded a little fresh parm over top. You should know that I love fresh parmesan like nothing else. I find that it is EXACTLY what just about every dish needs... but that's another story... Anyway so I ate that kind of open-face style and that worked out. I was so proud that I did not partake in the potato chips that the hubby was munching on.
For dinner I did make the EatingWell.com recipe for Wine and Tomato Braised Chicken. I stirred a little brown rice into it while cooking so it was a little more like a soup, I guess. That is one of my favorite recipes. It is better to use chicken thighs as the recipe calls for and simmer in a crockpot, but I used bone-on chicken breasts (because that's what I had). It was still good, but thigh meat is so much more tender.
I did go for a walk outside today because it was 40 degrees - which is like a heatwave around here! I took Dylan with me and we following some deer tracks across our property and into the neighbors yard. I've become very obsessed with the birds who visit my feeders so Dylan and I refilled those and moved one so that the flock could spread out a bit. Dylan loves to be outside and excitedly screeches at the sight of sticks, rocks, slush, leaves, anything really, so it is nice to live kind of vicariously through his excitement.
I also made a fort out of sheets and living room furniture. We've never done this with Dylan before and he loved it. We brought a bunch of books inside and read in our new fort. In addition, Dylan has recently gotten into the bubble part of baths so I bought him some real bubble bath and tonight he had his first official bubble bath. I couldn't get him out of the tub! Literally, the water was cold and he was still yelling "bubble! bubble!" One amazing thing about being a parent is having the opportunity to introduce your child to so many new things. Today I was thinking, this is the first indoor fort he has built and sat in ever in his life. Or, this evening was his first super bubbly bubble bath - ever. And I get to witness it all. He views the world with such wonder and amazement. It is so cool to watch him experience new things.
I did not answer any phone calls and actually only missed 2 calls and 2 texts. I can't describe how peaceful it was not to hear the sound of a ringer or the chirp of a text. Also, it was kind of nice to have a day of quiet. Obviously, with Dylan around, it is never silent, but since I talk for a profession, it was nice to just keep my mouth shut today.
I also asked my husband to watch the little one so I could lay down for half and hour and that turned into a two hour nap - TWO HOURS! I haven't napped like that in forever!
Because I don't have school tomorrow and because I feel that I am allowed to break my own rules, I'm going to make myself a cup of coffee (decaf) with a little Bailey's now!
